PS Dr. Kipsang champions Inclusive Education at Schools Connect dialogue 2024

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 16...The Principal Secretary State Department for Basic Education Dr. Belio Kipsang has highlighted the critical role of inclusive education in ensuring that all children have access to quality learning opportunities.

Speaking during the Schools Connect Dialogue 2024 in Nairobi organised by British Council Kipsang highlighted the global challenge of educational access, noting that approximately 240 million children with disabilities worldwide face significant barriers due to discrimination, stigma, and inadequate support in educational settings.

"We have taken every measure and effort to provide equitable access to quality education for all students including those with disabilities and Marginalized", said Dr. Kipsang.

The PS further added that approaching 100 percent enrollment in primary as well as secondary schools, Enrollment rates for children with disabilities in special needs schools and those from ASAL areas have also gone up significantly.

Similarly the country is implementing  Free Primary Education (FPE) and Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) initiatives to ensure all children access education.

Furthermore, the PS noted that there is need to train more teachers and equip them with the necessary skills to enable to handle the diverse needs of all learners.

"We need to engage and involve local communities by creating awareness programmes that aim to reduce stigma and promote acceptance, available adequate resources required to improve facilities and support all services for inclusive education", stated PS Dr. Kipsang.
