Government says its fully prepared for Grade 9 transition in January 2025

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 23...The government has announced 16,000 classrooms construction nationwide to support the smooth transition of grade 8 students to grade 9 under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Government Spokesman Dr. Isaac Mwaura While addressing journalists said that the first phase of 3,500 classrooms are complete with the second phase of 7,500 classrooms 57 percent complete.

"The final phase of 5,000 classrooms is on track to be completed by December 2024 ensuring adequate space for CBC learners transitioning to grade 9", said Dr. Mwaura.

The Spokesman noted that to manage increased number of grade 9 students Teachers service Commission (TSC) has recruited 56,000 teachers permanently, 20,000 intern teachers set to be recruited by January 2025 and another 8,707 have been advertised.

"Government is fully prepared for the transition to grade 9 in January 2025 and has put in place necessary measures to ensure a smooth and successful process", stated Spokesman.

Teachers service Commission (TSC) has employed over 85,000 teachers at a cost of Ksh 40 billion with the initiative reducing teacher to student ratio, enhanced the quality of education and address teacher shortages across the country.

"Parents can be assured that the infrastructure, teaching staff and learning materials are in place and their is no cause of concern as the education system adapts to the new curriculum", he remarked.
