NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 10... National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) led by General secretary Canon Chris Kinyanjui on 9th April 2024 held a press briefing on anticipated governance and electoral reforms proposed by National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) recently passed by parliament and ready for its implementation.

National Assembly Moses Wetangula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi have been urged to have the report published in a manner accessible to Kenyans.

"The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee should hold sittings in all counties to receive feedback from kenyan citizens and thereafter review parliamentary bills attendant to NADCO report to reflect wishes of people" reads a statement by NCCK.

Furthermore the council call out National Assembly and The Senate over Non- adherence to Two-third gender rule.

"We reiterate that failure to constitute Independent Electoral and Boundaries commision (IEBC) is breaching the rights of the people of Kenya" said NCCK

They further express concerns for Kenyans saying that National assembly is seeking to effect recommendations of the committee in a massive review without a recourse to the citizens.

"We call upon Kenyans to actively read and comment on the 9 bills presented in the NADCO report and to demand that electoral reforms be focused on improving governance, accountability and legitimacy"

"Securing peaceful, free, fair and credible elections while safeguarding perfomance and credibility of electoral institutions and improving participation and reprentation of youth, women and persons with disabilities in elective body"  NCCK statement reads further.
