Government to invest more in Agricultural sector as key driver of economic recovery

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 22...The Government through Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura has said that government has undertaken various initiatives to make farming profitable with predictable incomes.

"The Kenya Kwanza administration is dedicated to investing in Agriculture as a key driver in economic recovery focusing on reducing cost of living, creating jobs, reducing poverty and generating income" said Dr. Isaac Mwaura.

Provided agricultural capacity building technical support to counties engaging veterinary interns to support livestock  production

In addition improved animal breeding through establishments of embryo transfer facilities and goat artificial centers producing approximately 1 million doses of buck semen.

Through duty waivers and VAT exemptions on feeds have been subsidized and distributed 8,900 kgs of food for pasture  production stabilizing feed prices and improving availability.

Advanced dairy value chain development with the mapping of 265 sites for milk cooler installation and provision of 20 dairy goats to multiplication centres and elite breeders in KELCOP areas addressing post- harvests losses. 

The government has also supoorted 138,679 pastoralists with livestock insurance  and covered 503, 480 Tropical livestock units (TLU) under the drive program to enhance resilience.
