County Assemblies Forum (CAF) Governing Council condemns abductions, harassment and threats againts MCAs

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31...The County Assemblies Forum (CAF) Governing Council and the County Assembies House leaders has Condemned abduction and harassment of MCAs highlighting the recent Wajir County MCA abduction adding that it has created a climate of fear among county representatives.

They demand that government through its security agencies take immediate and transparent action to ascertain whereabouts of the abducted MCA and ensure his safe return to his family and the community. 

"Despite our outreach to Inspector General of Police (IG) and multiple appeals to relevant authorities there has been no action, this is not an isolated incident MCAs across the country have faced threats, physical attacks and assaults eroding trust in the government's institution commitments to safeguard rights of Kenya", said CAF Governing Council.

The leaders have urged the government to prioritize security of all MCAs across the country by reinforcing protective measures and accountability mechanisms for any kind of violence or intimidation.

"These ongoing incidents not only compromise the safety of wellbeing of our MCAs but also threatened the intergrity of our democratic processes, abduction of this MCA along with previous assaults on representatives is an affront to the values of justice and democracy upon which our nation is founded", they stated.

In addition CAF calls upon law enforcement agencies to initiate a thorough and immediate investigation into the case  and to hold to account those responsible for his disappearance.

"We therefore demand that Hon. Yussuf Hussein Ahmed is released with immediate effect, failure to which all the 47 county assemblies shall shut down all operations and sittings until he is released", reiterated CAF.
