CS Chirchir commissions the new Ruiru station

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 1...Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, EGH has commissioned the new Ruiru station as the station will enhance connectivity and boost local development.
Among other stations include Kenyatta University, Kahawa West, Githurai, Mwiki, Dandora and Mutindwa.
"The construction of the Stations represents a significant and positive development for the community and sorrounding areas" said CS Chirchir.
Having commissioned 7 NCR stations during his tour and train ride along the Nairobi - Ruiru route, Mr. Chirchir applauded the remarkable milestones achieved by KR towards enabling Efficient mass transportation of passengers in and around the busy Economic Hub, Nairobi.
Furthermore, he added that the government through the Ministry of Roads and Transport is determined to ensure provision of safe, secure and highly efficient transportation of both passengers and cargo within the country and beyond borders facilitating productive connectivity.
Subsequently the CS said Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) project encompasses the rehabilitation and upgrade of a total of 139 km of railway track.
"Track rehabilitation works were undertaken to improve the riding comfort of the commuters, increase safety of operations and reduce the transit time for the trips by eliminating speed restrictions". Stated the CS
In addition World bank has pledged Ksh 65 billion towards the construction of 58 kilometers of new rail network aiming to transform the commuter experience with a target of transporting 100,000 passengers daily by end of 2024-2025 financial year up from current 20,000.
Kenya Railways acquired Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) which are under operation providing reliable, safe and comfortable modern rail transport services with construction of Ultra-Modern carriage and Wagon (CXR) workshop underway.
