Opposition led by Kalonzo Musyoka demands immediate gazzettement of IEBC selection pannel

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31...Wiper leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has called on the government for immediate gazzettment  of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) selection pannel.

"We should move in Speed to put in place the new IEBC because delay in having the new IEBC places the future of our democracy", said Dr. Musyoka.

The High Court a week ago directed opposition parties to conduct elections in accordance with the IEBC (Amendment) act 2024.

 "A nominee in place within 48 hours of the judgement and in any event not later than 3pm October 24".

The opposition parliamentary  parties nominated Dr. Koki Muli in order to beat the 3pm deadline, name was fowarded to Parliamentary Service Commision (PSC).

"The clark and National Assembly speaker refused to forward the names of the nine nominees to the president for gazzettmemt within the stipulated seven days, this is meant to allow National Liberal Party to move to Court of Appeal", stated Kalonzo.

Similarly religious leaders have been on forefront calling for urgent reconstitution of IEBC saying that it is a breach of constitution of Kenya has now gone for 16 months without a properly constituted commision.

"We call upon President William Ruto and all concerned stakeholders to speedily conclude recruitment of IEBC commissioners, it would be prudent to separate this process from other political discourse due to the magnitude of the risk that the lack of IEBC portends to the country", religious leaders had said earlier.
