Non- state actors steering committee express dissapointments over Africa Climate summit preparations with its agenda
Nairobi, Kenya September 3... As the much anticipated African Climate summit (ACS) 2023 approach Non-state actors steering committee has express disappointment over the preparations of the summit citing Civil society exclusion and western interest dominance
"We are deeply concerned that the summit agenda remains inclined to promote markets based solutions and Transnational coperation's involvement while neglecting the people" said a statement
"Summit organizers have deliberately failed to ensure adequate participation and consultation of non-state actors especially those from marginalised communities in the planning and implementation of the summit" adds the statement
As the summit set to kick off in a few hours steering committee wants African leaders to acknowledge the urgent need to address the climate emergency and protects the livelihoods of its citizens
In addition the group also rejects false solutions undermining African communities' rights, interests and sovereignty which include carbon market, geoengeneering, nuclear energy and shared responsibility principles
Subsequently they also rejected promotion of carbon market as they do not serve the climate justice agenda for Africa urging African leaders to put African people above all personal and collective political and economic interests
The group also demands that developed countries fulfil their historical responsibility and provide adequate an predictable finance, techbology , transfer and capacity building to support adaptation , mitigation , loss and damage in Africa
They further emphasis the need for African leaders to put African people above all personal and collective political and economical interests
"As a collective , the Africa climate summit Non state actors hope that African leaders will champion and uphold these demands at the upcoming Africa climate summit and beyond" the statement reads further
