CS Soipan Tuya unveils Regional Centre of Excellence in Biodiversity, Forests and Seascapes Ecosystem Management at RCMRD, Nairobi

NAIROBI,Kenya Mar 23...Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment,Climate change and Forestry, Hon Soipan Tuya presided over the launch of Regional Centre of Excellence(RCoE) for Biodiversity, Forests and Seascape Ecosystems Management at Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) in Kasarani, Nairobi County.
The Center is set to facilitate knowledge sharing and support informed decision-making in climate change, environmental degradation, population growth, technological development and diversification of security threats in Sub-Saharan Africa.
"As a Ministry, we look forward to utilizing output from the Center to enhance Kenya's climate action including the ambitious 10-year Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy, the anchor framework for the 15bn National Tree Growing Programme" Said Hon. Soipan Tuya
RCMRD Director General Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, CIFOR Director for Africa and Global Coordinator Dr Peter Minang, Representative of the European Union Delegation to Kenya Ms Myra Bernadi as well as African Wildlife Foundation (CEO) Mr Kaddu Sebunya were among dignitaries in attendance.
RCoEs is supported by European Union in partnership with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), World Agroforestry (ICRAF) and RCMRD for the use of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).
Michael Kimani Coordinator Regional Centre of Exellence For Forestry, Biodiversity and Seascapes at RCMRD said that the Project will provide information for countries on how they can make decisions based on how biodiversity,forestry and seascapes are expanding and growing in the region.
"If there are challenges we have at the conservancies forestry sectors will be able to know Where its happening ,how its happening and efforts that decision makers can make to ensure that it cease to happen" added Mr. Kimani
