Youths urge President Ruto for inclusivity, accountability and good governance

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 15...The three-day National Youth Conference 2024 brought together 160 youth drawn from across the country with the theme " Empowered Youth for Sustainable livelihoods" that took place at Jumuia Conference and country home,Limuru.

The youths called on President William Ruto to listen to them and not react and reject their sentiments as their expressed dissapointments despite appeals over the last two months.

"Your Excellency, please listen to the youth of Kenya, not just to react and reject their sentiments but to lead the nation on a path of recovery and healing , we here reiterate the message we have been passing" said the Youths.  

With more than 70 percent population of the country being youth they added that youth cannot and must not be ignored, all policies and laws should be youth oriented, youth focused and youth generated to curb unemployment which has affected more than 65 percent subjecting them to live in poverty. 

"Youth and all Kenyans rejected the Finance bill 2024, but the new Treasury Cabinet Secretary has promised to bring back some portions of the Bill without any public participation, You not only re-appointed the same people but brought in new political characters who are equally tainted" reads a statement by the Youths.

Furthermore they demand that not less than seven Cabinet Secretaries should be youths adding that they demand accountability and good governance.

"We call for an end of police brutality to enable Exercise right to peaceful protests, more than 60 were killed and whereabouts of multiple others remain uknown after being abducted by Security agents" adds the Statement.  

They further call out Members of National Assembly to cease passing laws that are againsts citizens and instead take public participation seriously 

"To all our church leaders, we call upon you to embrace the youth and create spaces and opportunities within the structures the youth are not fighting the church we are partners in demanding for accountability and good governance in the country"   

"We urge the church to expand the efforts to empower the youth for sustainable livelihoods"
