Ahmed Abdullahi elected Chairman Council of Governors

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 7...The Council of Governors has elected H.E Ahmed Abdullahi EGH, Governor Wajir County as the Chairman after Governor Ann Waiguru tenure came to an end.

H.E. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga, EGH , Governor Nyeri County has been elected as Vice chair  and Nandi Governor H.E Stephen Sang, Governor Nandi as Whip.

"Your leadership will be pivotal in steering devolution forward and enhancing service delivery across all counties". reads a statement by Council of Governors on Facebook page.

The outgoing Council of Governors Chairperson was lauded for remarkable achievements including FY 2023/24 where County Governments generated Kshs.58.95B in Own Source Revenue, a 55.91% increase from last year. Turkana County leads, surpassing its target by 241.2%.

In addition Agriculture remains a vital part of country's economy, contributing 21.8% to GDP. Counties recorded significant growth in maize (38.8%) and rice (19.1%) production.

"Furthermore, With 503 renewable energy projects, counties are leading the way in clean energy. 33 counties now utilize solar power for street lighting, backup power in hospitals, and more". Stated Governor Waiguru.
